Elli Egilsson: NEVADA
ELLI EGILSSON (1981) is a self-taught visual artist born and raised in Reykjavík, but has been working in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, where he currently resides.
Elli's works are based on imaginary forms of Icelandic nature with no specific places in mind, the brush steers the directionof the works while they are being painted, in a dreamlike way with home-made oil colors that the artist creates him self.
The landscape works are characterized by extreme precision in the representation of texture and color treatment. The graphic drawing is often full of a sensitive feeling for the roughness of the mountain, but he also plays with its fine lines so that it becomes a full and inticate piece. Elli strives to show the strong forms of the landscape, from which he has developed a continuous series of paintings, which are based equally on the spectacular landscape of the uninhabited Iceland as well as the softness and different textures of untouched nature.
"My works are simply memories for future generations, showing the landscape as it is created in my mind, real and mixed with imagination. The painters of the past have left magnificent works of art that describe how they saw the world around them, the world that was then. I want to leave behind my vision, my perspective on nature and the wilderness of the country, for future generations to experience and enjoy."
