Anna Maggý Icelandic, b. 1995
Anna Maggý
Anna Maggý (b. 1995) is a Reykjavík-based photographer and director whose work explores the materiality of photography, human behavior, and the boundaries of social structures. Through her lens, she navigates the space between reality and dreams, the tangible and intangible, channeling these ideas through the subconscious mind.
Her approach to photography is highly distinctive—she creates effects and compositions in-camera rather than relying on post-production, utilizing elements such as water, light, and movement to shape her images. This tactile and experimental process gives her work a raw, immersive quality that blurs the line between perception and reality.
Anna Maggý’s work has been featured in international publications including Vogue Italia, British Vogue, Dazed & Confused, and i-D Magazine. Her recent solo exhibitions include Urgent Experiments on Reality (Ásmundarsalur, 2022) and Avoiding Death and Birth (Þula, 2022-23).
Anna Maggý continues to push the boundaries of photography, using the camera as a tool for exploration—both of the external world and the subconscious landscapes within.
Anna Maggý lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland.
