Overview

Didier Goupy (b. 1960) began his photographic journey in Morocco, and early works made in Ireland and Egypt were swiftly published in Photo Magazine and Photo Reporter. Establishing himself in Paris in the mid-1980s, he worked with the Bayard Presse group and joined the Sygma agency in 1991.

His travels through India from 1993 to 2001 marked a turning point in his practice, revealing his enduring fascination with portraiture and the expressive potential of colour - now central to his visual language. Over time, his work has evolved into an exploration of the metaphysical and painterly qualities of space, influenced by the emotive depth of Rothko and the subtle intimacy of Bonnard.
In Odyssey, Goupy’s lens turns to Icelandic landscapes as both site and symbol, reflecting on form, force, and transformation. As with Ulysses, whose long journey home was shaped by mystery and adversity, Goupy invites us into an introspective passage through image, one that blurs the boundaries between abstraction, colour, and the natural world.
